In the parish of Ferreira remains one of the jewels from the patrimony of the Lands of Sousa: the Monastery of Ferreira. With a strong medieval influence in the settling and in the agricultural and cultural development of the region, the Romanesque Church of S. Pedro de Ferreira stands to this day as an impressive testimony of 12th century architecture. We may see in it such diversified influences as those of the school of Zamora, visible in the porch, the school of Coimbra, in the capitals, and also a local school, with parallels to Unhão, in the beautiful masonry of the two lateral doors.
The Church is of an impressive strength and robustness, a single nave, abutments faced opposite each other in the exterior and interior. It has an exterior porch with bell tower that, even though of later construction, articulates itself harmoniously with the 11th century construction. The entrance porch has five arches with simple columns and profusely decorated capitals. The interior, with a single nave, gives access to a main chapel of Galician influence, with polygonal form and deep arches in mitre and triumphal arch entrance. The main chapel's vault presents two very clear angles in its forms and volume. The existing Manueline baptismal font shows the arms of D. Diogo de Sousa, also deserving a reference here. A Gothic image (16th century) of Saint Peter, Patron of the Monastery, is still shown inside.
